What’s Your Favorite Part of Meal Prep?
If you could choose only one thing to do for getting a meal ready, what would it be?
Anything goes – it might be shopping for ingredients, chopping, sauteing, breading something, etc.
What’s your very favorite part?
Do you find it relaxes you? Or is it seeing something accomplished that you enjoy?
My favourite part of meal prep is the end; when it’s all done. If I am well organised it’s not such a hassle but mostly, I just wish someone else would do it so I can just walk in and get on with the cooking. Sous chef! That’s what I need…a sous chef! Unfortunately, no one else in this house is the least bit interested in that position X – [. They aren’t interested in doing the clean-up either, but that’s another story for another time.
When the kitchen is cleaned up and I can sit and relax a bit. Do not do much cooking anymore but every so often get the urge. I do like to make soups and then the smell of them simmering.
Maybe my favorite part these days is reading all of the recipes when deciding what to prepare. It gives me pleasure seeing the food transformed from all of those individual ingredients into something special, and I really enjoy kneading bread and then that aroma while it’s baking…and yes, sitting down to relax when it’s all done and cleaned up. Good feeling of satisfaction…and exhaustion sometimes too.
So Becky, what’s yours?? Now we all want to know!
I guess my favorite part depends on my mood. Sometimes it is soothing to just stand and chop fresh veggies, letting my mind wander. Other times, it is mixing and blending. I love to bake so I do enjoy the smells of something wonderful in the oven!
And yes, sitting down and relaxing when everything is cleaned up and put away is wonderful!!!!!
My favorite part is the planning. I’ve started planning at least a week’s worth of menus at a time. I like going through all my recipes and thinking of new things to try or something we haven’t had for a while. My DH is the easiest guy to cook for because he likes everything.
It also works well for me to plan because he’s on Coumidin and has to watch his Vitamin K vegetable intake.
Then we shop and I have everything I need to make the menus. I don’t have a set order to make them. Whatever sounds good in the morning.
It has made my life so much simpler, plus I don’t waste so much food being there’s only two of us. Monday’s pork roast may turn into Thursday’s pork fried rice.
