I hate ricotta, pumpkin, cloves, and white chocolate. There are probably more, but I can’t think of them right now.

I like most things but not spinach out of a can.  YUCK!

  • Nalani:

I do not like most fish or any shell fish or any of the disgusting things they make you eat on Survivor or Amazing Race.

Don’t care for okra but will eat it in soups and stews.  Don’t like liver or sweet breads (the innards kind)  That used to always confuse me when I was a kid.

There are a lot of foods that I don’t really care for but will eat it in a pinch.

  • Becky:

Liver and canned spinach for sure.  Soft bananas but that is a texture thing.  Orange marmalade is another thing I don’t like.  I’m having trouble thinking of foods I hate.
I have so many food allergies, my ‘don’t eat’ list is very long without adding dislikes.

  • Abbenanny:

Asparagus and cooked spinach.  I think it is a texture thing.  I love spinach salad and strangely spanikopita it’s cooked in spanikopita but not to ‘death’ the way I remember as a child.

I have a few things that I CAN’T  eat but one of the things I WON’T eat are mushrooms!  Blecchh! I can’t stand the smell, the taste, or the texture, fresh, canned, raw or cooked…no way, no how.  They just ruin everything for me and I refuse to eat them or anything they are in.

And green beans are right up there, too.  Oh, and that feta cheese that is stored in liquid, big time yucko and following right behind that, blue cheese.

And don’t get me started on anything with vinegar and mustard!  I don’t mind using them as a seasoning or the vinegar to wash my lettuce with, beyond that, I have no use for either of those things.

I wonder how many of the foods we dislike are a result of how they were prepared when we were children.  IF you didn’t have a good cook preparing your meals as a child, it might really impact how you feel about certain foods as an adult.

I am one who hates all fresh berries.    Don’t mind them when made into jams or jellies.
Especially will not eat blueberry muffins.  UGH!

Only other I can think of is Orange Roughy….hate the texture of the fish.

  • SherryPA:

Good point Becky.  Unfortunately, my love for all kinds of sweets and breads probably came from all of our good family cooks and bakers=FAT!!!!  I’d also read that we need to be careful offering children sweets as rewards for things.  This would indicate they are special and really good where perhaps the fruits and vegetables aren’t so good and desirable if it’s a clean you plate thing or whatever they are being rewarded for doing.  Guess our reward system got messed up a little…

I’m not a picky eater and will try most everything.   I love liver, but not any other “inards”  I do have to limit some foods because of high cholesterol and diabeties.

I’m not crazy about eggplant, but I’d eat it if we were guests at someone’s house who served it.  Don’t care for okra, except fried.  The only other thing I can think of is Cream of Wheat.  There are a lot of things I’ve never tried–beef brain and tongue come to mind, so I don’t know if I like them or not.  Plenty of people like pig’s feet–never tried those either.

I think most of us dislike “innards”, but to me that is not a traditional food item in our family.  Thinking of regular foods, I like most everything except venison unless it is made into sausage.  Since I don’t have food allergies, I will pretty much eat anything.  My mom was not really a very good cook, but we were served a variety of vegetables, fruits and meats plus both my Hungarian grandmothers were fantastic cooks and bakers.  Holidays at grandma’s house was a treat!!
