postheadericon Crock Pots – Do You Preheat?

Print this entry

I’ve read different opinions on preheating crock pots.

IF you put hot food in a cold crock pot, such as chili, does it cool down the food or does the crock pot get hot fast enough not to change the food temperature?

What do you do when you put hot food in a crock pot?

Do you always measure before adding or eyeball it?

postheadericon School lunch memories!

So what do you recall from your school lunches?  Just ran across this recipe at Pinterest and am sure it needs to be tried...when DH isn't around.  I loved these things if this is the right recipe.  Somewhere I have the one from our school cafeteria that makes a ton, but I had cut down that recipe too.  The other thing I loved was the Shepherd's Pie.  Other kids hated it and would pile it onto Read more [...]

Reading sweets post put an idea in my head.  Why and when did you all join Mimi’S?  I joined in 1998 because I was looking for a good latke recipe, one with really detailed instructions.  I love them but mine always turned out to be  crumbling in the pan or so soggy they were just…blah!  So in I came, found the best recipe and here I stayed.

postheadericon Memorial Day grilling, ideas?

We are doing the family cookout thing on Monday and I want to do grilled corn.  I've used the regular method where you pull back the husks, remove the silk then replace the husks and soak the ears for a couple of hours before grilling. That method works okay but I was wondering if there might be a better way.  Has anyone tried wrapping the ears in foil then putting them on the grill?  Maybe with Read more [...]

postheadericon ISO: Tried and True Cherry Pie Filling

Print this entry

Hi Folks,  Does anyone have a great recipe for cherry pie filling?  I will be used jarred sour cherries and would like the filling to have very little jelly when all is said and done.  I will be using it to make a chocolate cake for my son’s birthday.  He wants a Black Forest cake so the filling can’t have too much jelly in it as it will saturate the cake.  Thanks to all who reply.
