…what would you keep on hand to see you though the tough times and how would you prepare it?

Golly you really come up with some good ‘food for thought ones”  I would have the ingredients for biscuits/sourdough bread, a cow in the backyard and some chickens. I’d make sure I had a clean water source and enough peanut butter to sink a battleship LOL

Beans and corn.  Given a good water source they will grow just about anywhere.  Garbonzos are a desert bean.  right now I also have some black beans, pintos, orcas, and red tepiary on hand.  For corn, got some yellow and blue popcorn, and some flint corn on hand.  Between that and hunting/fishing………

Water would definitely be a first concern.  I guess then the dried beans, rice, pastas, canned items,,,,,, My DIL’s sourdough bread…yes, thanks ABBE!  DH can do the hunting Pepe…I got my permanent senior fishing license so I can help with that!  Lots more to think about on this one…I saved a very long post on sourdough bread from Polar Bear if anyone wants it or my DIL’s can be typed up and posted…. off and running….have a good one!

A lot of non perishables, especially powdered milk, grains, beans and water.  If I had time to prepare would get lots of canned goods, especially fruits and veggie sorts.

I’d be sure to stock up on rice and pasta of various types.  And the basic staples  - flour, sugar, salt, milk, yeast, baking soda and powder and cinnamon.   I’d add canned and frozen foods, dried beans,  peanut butter, oatmeal and hopefully some chicken for the freezer.

They asked Dr. Oz what 3 foods he would want if he was stranded on an island and he said he would want broccoli, almonds and beer.

Broccoli and almonds for all the obvious reasons and beer because it’s mostly purified water.  For some reason that’s stuck with me :-)

If food were scarce, first I would stockpile drinking water. Then I would want a lot of beans and rice. The make them tasty, I would like to have some spices and herts. I would need miltiple vitamins to prevent deficiey deases.

I wish I could correct my typos after I post them.

Me too Bobbi Jo!  The other day I spoke to a young father of two little boys who has quite a survival stash going for his family.  He purchased some kind of plastic sealable containers and has wheat, rice, beans, etc. in those and had just ordered somewhere online a pile of canned meats to go along with his dry foods.  Wow!  I guess it does seem to be a good idea the way the economy has tumbled and prices on everything have gone up so much.  Guess I’d best be taking this a little more seriously. That young father was amazing…and an inspiration to me.  We have some canned goods on hand but nothing like he was talking about.  Is anyone else that prepared should anything happen?
