Is there a certain type of cooking you find takes a lot of time?

What is it?  Does it require a lot of chopping, slicing, stirring for a long time, or some other technique you find is very time intensive?

What is your most time consuming type of cooking?

Good one to make us think Becky!  A recipe with many steps and a lot of ingredients seems to dissuade me lately.  It’s the time intensive thing for sure no matter what it is for me.  It would be such a joy to have the time to just putsy in the kitchen for as long as it takes whatever it is.  Maybe someday again. I do remember those days…lovely memories and good food!

I love Chinese stir fry, although the cooking method is quick eeesh the prep!!! Chop, chop ,chop mince, mince mince but oh so worth it.:)  I also really like tabouli and tzatziki two more chop, mince, dice forever dishes  I don’t make them any more since I’m the only one who eats it and who wants to do all that work for just one person.  Luckily for me there’s a restaurant here that makes it and it isn’t too expensive so when the hankerin hits I get some delivered ahhh modern technology.

Baking bread.  Mixing is easy enough, but the kneeding and letting the bread rise takes lots of time.  Then after the first rise you shape the bread the way you want it, and let it rise again.  Finnaly you bake.    Love the end product though.

Lots of steps and ingredients slow me down too, unless I have a lot of time to spend in the kitchen.

I agree with all the chopping for stir fry – UGH!  The end result is wonderful but the time it takes to get everything ready is the problem.

Making my own pasta for ravioli, etc. doesn’t thrill me much these days either, but homemade noodles are a different story. Go figure!  That’s not to say that I don’t love eating it though!  Been cheating on the stir-fry and buying either frozen or the already cut ones in the meat case.  I’m just a bad woman!!!  Sure agree with Pepe about the results of that homemade bread.  Makes my mouth water just thinking about it!

One of my most time consuming, although not difficult, things to make is homemade pizza.  Like I said, the work isn’t hard, it just takes a long time.  Preparing the crust, chopping the toppings and assembling the ingredients for the sauce.  I could spend almost an entire day getting all that ready.  And it will be all gone is less than half an hour!

Fortunately, with a tip from my son’s friend, I have found a very quick way to make pizza at home.  We use the large pita breads as the base; I still make the homemade sauce, again, assembling all the ingredients takes more time than making the sauce.  We used pre-chopped olives, pepperoni and real bacon bits.  For me personally, it’s a 3 cheese pizza; mozarella, extra old cheddar and Parmesan.  Grating all that cheese can be a task, but thank goodness I have a little machine for that now.
