Has anyone had success freezing butter?   I got some on sale and would like to prolong the life – can it be frozen and then used in baking?

Thanks for the help.

Absolutely – I do it all the time with unsalted stick butter.

Hi Becky, I have never needed to freeze butter but I understand it is perfectly OK to do so.  One thing my mom found out is that it is prudent to cut up the whole block into smaller peices simply for the ease of quick defrosting.  I would suggest you cut it into the size of your butter dish.  If your butter is already in 1/2 cup sticks, that should be perfectly fine

Thanks!  I will freeze it.  It is already in sticks so I won’t have to cut it.  Love to take advantage of sales when I can!

Just to join the answering group.   I have been freezing butter for years.   Works fine….as you have already learned.   The only thing I use for Cookie and pastry baking….  so when it is on sale I buy plenty.

  • Becky:

Thanks Schmitty.  I’ve frozen the butter and will keep watching for more sales.
