I love basil, tarragon, cumin and Mexican oregano. Also red pepper flakes since I'm into Thai cooking--at least this week ;-)

I use a lot of different spices since Harry isn't supposed to have any salt (but I do use some anyway). We use salt-free blends, too, Becky. Original Mrs Dash and Spike are my favorites--do you recommend any others?

It is hard to choose my favorites - depends on what I'm cooking. I do use a lot of oregano and garlic. Baking my most used spice is cinnamon. There are a couple of salt free blends we really like.

Ohhhhhhh........I love herbs and spices!! Love the smell when I open a new bottle and love experimenting.
I love trying to make some of my own blends but I also think that pre-blended are good as well as long as they come from a reputable company. Penzey's being one of them.
I think there are too many to mention as my favorites because it depends on what I am cooking that night.

Such a good question though. What are your favorites Becky?

Oregano goes in pretty much everything, not counting salt and pepper. I have recently started to use onion salt more too... I make up pesto and will add a tsp of that too...
and cumin. Those are my most freequent go-tos.

I have a few that I use in just about everything I make; to varying degrees, of course.

For cooking, it's Sea salt, coarse ground black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and chili powder. Herbs include basil, oregano, thyme, sage and marjoram; all dried leaf form. One of my new favourites is cayenne pepper. It was difficult to find some that wasn't completely ground into a powder, but I did find it again; bought 3 bottles of the stuff.

For baking, cinnamon is my all-time favourite, but I'm quickly warming up to nutmeg and cloves.

For cooking, sometimes I eye-ball it but mostly I will measure carefully. Depending on the item.

I generally don't use store bought spice blends as they probably contain MSG or citric acid. I have made up my own "Cajun" spice mix that I use when I make quesadillas or chip dip. It contains most of the above mentioned cooking spices and I'm still experimenting with using it. Fantastico!

I use four most. Salt, garlic powder, onion powder and crushed red pepper flakes. I use them in my hash browns I make for breakfast. I don't measure, eyeball every time. For DW I use the salt, both powders and black pepper instead of the red pepper.
