Are there meals you eat during the summer months that you don’t, or rarely, eat the rest of the year?

What are they?

Is this  a heat thing or do certain meals just have more appeal at this time of the year?

Fruit Salad platters!  That would include various cut up fruit with a greater amount of watermelon and cantaloupe, a scoop of either chicken or tuna salad, cottage cheese, some meat/cheese roll-ups, and maybe a pickled egg.  It’s a whole meal and is refreshing…Sometimes we use some raspberry sherbet too.  It’s kind of a mix ‘n match deal to suit your personal preferences.  Summer is a great time for these while that fruit is in season.

Also grilled foods……I love summer,  the beach, the heat and summer food and cooking!  And freeze some red seedless grapes for a fast, sweet, cold treat…..

More fruit and veggie trays.  Smoothies.  Now that the kids and grandkids are out of the house, DW and I tend to just grab snacks and sandwichs while we work on thing.

We eat a lot more chef salads during the summer months.  And lots of fruit.

Also like BLT’s but those are a treat since we rarely eat bacon.

I tend to use the GF grill more in the summer than the winter months.

Never change foods I eat or serve in the Summer…. I eat soup year round as well as Chili….  For family gatherings use salads and fruit salads just the same as during the Winter… but do more grilling during Spring, Summer and Fall…as long as the snow is not falling…although we have dragged the grill into the the front of the garage and grilled even at Christmas time.  Putting large slabs of Salmon… for our Christmas Eve Seafood feast.

Cannot think of whole meals, but I only eat corn on the cob when it is in season locally. I used to only eat anything baked during the winter months. Then I bought a countertop toaster/convection oven and put it on a cart on my patio. Now I back a salmon patty or cake any time of the year. (It’s too hot most of the year to use the big oven in the house.)

We eat more salads–chicken salad, salmon salad, etc.  Also lots and lots of watermelon because I just love it.  I could make a meal of corn on the cob and nice tomatoes, but our tomato season is long over here in Florida.  Oh, and peaches. Man, I love those, too.  We definitely eat lighter and healthier in the summer than in the cooler months.   Every once in a while I’ll make a cold soup–my favorite is strawberry soup.  Really decadent!

Oh Becky!!  I sure would like a BLT about now.

Fresh from the garden tomato and cucumber salad, giat garden salad, cole slaw, my mom’s potato salad, orangeade, lemonade, limeade fruit spritzers corn on the cob, bbq , (my son’s genre) he won;t let me touch the grill.  I’m the sous chef and salad maker. the beverages are usually store bought, the syrups needed to make them at home cost more then a bottle of juice,

  • Becky:

We had BLT’s last night and they were great.  Bacon is so expensive, that will not be a common meal around here even with all the fresh tomatoes.
