I thought I had posted my molasses oat bread recipe here on Mimi’s.  I couldn’t find it when I looked.  I’m wondering if some one has it.  I lost most of my recipes when my computer crashed.  Mom asked if I could make it for her.  Thanks all.

Thanks, but this one isn’t it.  It is a recipe I came up with when trying to duplicate the bread at Applebees.  I thought I posted it here at Mimi’s.  My computer crashed and took the recipe with it, along with recipes I’d been colecting for years.  I kept the hard drive so I may get them back, I hope……

Was the old recipe on the Board or in the old Archives?

  • pepe85323:

I did look in the archives and didn’t find it.  Tried to look on the old board but I may have done something wrong.  Didn’t find anything at all.

I went through my recipes but I don’t have it.  Hopefully someone saved it and will post it.

Thanks Becky, I hope so to.  Maybe I’ll get lucky and be able to get it from the old hard dirve.  If I do, I’ll make sure to post it again.

I checked also Pepe without any luck.  It sounds like a recipe I would have saved too. Hopefully someone has it, posts it, and we all can make it….especially you and your Mom!

Thanks everyone.  I was hopeing.  Well, if I can get the hard drive going on my old ‘puter I’ll get it and make sure I post it.  If not, I have a rough idea what I put in it.  Time to spend a day or two figuring it out again.

    Pepe I found it!!!
    MOLASSES OAT BREAD
    2 cups scalded milk
    1/2 cup molasses
    1 package yeast
    2 eggs
    1/2 cup butter, softened
    2 cups rolled oats
    flour
    1 tsp salt
Scald the milk set aside to cool.  In a large bowl, cream together the molasses and butter until smooth.  Add the eggs and mix well.  Grind at least 1 cup of the oats into a fine flour.  If you grind both cups, it makes for a smoother loaf.  If you only grind part of them, it gives the loaf a more interesting look.  Add the ground oats to the molasses and mix well.  Add the salt.  Check the milk.  It should be warm to the touch.  If it is still hot, wait until it cools down.  Add the milk and yeast to the molasses mixture and mix well.  If you didn’t grind all the oats add the rest of the oats now.  Add the flour to make the dough you like to work with best.  I like a harder dough, Mom like a soft dough.  Kneed for 10 minutes on a lightly floured surface.  Return to the bowl, coat the surface with oil and let rise until double, about an hour.  After it has doubled, punch down and shape into loaves, rolls or any other shape.  Coat with spray oil again and let rise until doubled.  When just about  doubled, preheat the oven to 350F.  Bake until the loaf sounds hollow when thumped, about 35 minutes depending on size of loaves.  As soon as the bread is cool enough to handle, it’s ready to eat.
