Posted by: Lisa UK 08-02-99 4:53 PM

Basic Pizza Dough

6 oz. / 175 g. plain white flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. easy blend dry yeast
1/2 tsp. light brown sugar
1 tablespoon olive oil
4 fluid ounces hand hot water

Sift flour, salt, sugar and yeast into a bowl. Make a well in middle. Add in oil. Then add in water. Mix well with a wooden spoon then finish off with your hands to form a dough.

Transfer to a work surface and knead for about 3 minutes until there is a sheen to it. Use additional flour if necessary.

Cover dough with a bowl and leave on surface to rise until doubled in bulk (about 1 hour).

Preheat oven to 450 F or 230 C.

Punch dough down and knead again for about 3 minutes. Roll dough out to desired shape. Put pizza base on a non stick baking tray, press down a bit, spread with your sauce and/or toppings, sprinkle with grated mozzarella cheese or cheddar.

Bake for about 12 minutes.
