Apple Pie Grandma's Recipe

Apple Pie Grandma's Recipe

Pie Crust:
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
2 sticks or 1/2 lb unsalted butter
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup ice water

First combine the flour and butter in a bowl; cut the butter in well with a pastry cutter or 2 knives until small crumbs form. Then add the salt and ice water. Use the icey water as glue you may not need to use the whole 1/2 cup. Mix well.

Then take the dough and form it into a ball and wrap tightly in plastic wrap and stick in the fridge for about a half hour or until it is well chilled. ( This helps to make it easier to work with)

Next separate the dough like in half because, you will have alot of dough.

Then roll it out on a floured surface. Then it's pretty much ready to go in a pie plate.

Apple Pie:
3 large Pippin or Gala apples (Peel, core and slice thin)
1 large Delicious apple ( Peel, core and slice thin)
2/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup flour
Cinnamon, to taste
pinch Nutmeg
2 tsp. butter + more, as needed

Preheat oven to 400° F.

Place 2 layers of apples on bottom of pie plate. Mix flour and sugar together. Sprinkle with cinnamon and pinch of nutmeg.

Then place 1/4 cup of flour and sugar on top then put the rest of sliced apples.

Make a hole in the center of the pie and put 2 teaspoons of butter.

Sprinkle with cinnamon and pinch of nutmeg. Place 5 drops of butter around the edges.

Cover with crust. Bake at 400 for 15 minutes. Then 325 - 350 for 1 hour.

*Makes 1 9-inch apple pie.
