Beef: Jack's Southern Gravy Steak

posted by Tonkmom 05-26-100 11:46 AM

Jack's Southern Gravy Steak

1 pound round steak
1 can (10 3/4 oz.) cream of mushroom soup
1 envelope Lipton Onion Soup Mix (regular flavor or garlic/herb)
1/2 cup water
1 pound mushrooms washed and sliced

Preheat oven to 275 degrees F.

Thoroughly combine dry soup mix, cream of mushroom soup, and water/wine in an appropriately sized bowl.

In some heavy duty aluminum foil, large enough to make a baking pouch, place the steak and smother it with the soup mixture. Be certain there is soup mixture both on the bottom and top of the steak. Fold up the sides of the foil and make a closed pouch. In a preheated 275 degree oven, slowly bake (no peaking) for about 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Then serve.

This can also be done in the crockpot; dump everything in and let it cook on low for 8 - 10 hours.
