Cake Apple Butter Spice

2 1/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 tea. baking powder, double-acting
1 tea. soda
1/2 tea. salt
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 cup sugar
2 eggs, beaten well
3/4 cup apple butter
1 tea. vanilla
1 cup sour cream (thick or commercial)

Cream butter and sugar, add eggs, beat well. Blend in apple butter and vanilla. Sift together dry ingred. and add alternately with the sour cream to the butter/sugar mix.

Blend well after each addition. Grease and lightly flour a 9x13x2 pan on the bottom. Pour one-half the batter into the pan and sprinkle with topping (recipe to follow) Spoon remaining batter into pan; spread evenly. Sprinkle with remaining Topping.

Bake at 350* for 40 to 45 minutes. Serve warm or cold, plain or with whipped cream.


1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar, 1 tea. cinnamon, 1/2 tea. nutmeg and 1/2 cup chopped nuts.
