Breakfast: Alpine Muesli

Alpine Muesli

1/2 cup coconut
2 TBSP sesame seeds
2 cups rolled oats
1 cup rolled rice
1 cup rolled triticale
1/2 cup oatbran
1/2 cup wheat germ
2 TBSP sunflower seeds
2 TBSP pumpkin seeds
1/2 cup pecans or walnuts, chopped
1/2 cup hazelnuts, chopped
3/4 cup dried apricots, chopped
1/2 cup dried apples, chopped
1/2 cup sultanas


Combine coconut, seeds and nuts in a frying pan on medium heat until lightly browned. Cool.

Mix together with all the other ingredients and store in an airtight container (up to 3 months). Makes 9 cups.

To serve it Alpine style, pour over hot milk and some yoghurt to taste. Let stand 20 minutes.

The North American version is "toasted" by pouring over 60g melted butter+ 2 TBSP oil and baked at 350 degrees for 10 minutes - high in fat -
