Beef: Boiled Sweet & Sour Meatballs - meat

Posted by : Andrea Herrera

Here is one of my very favorite meatball recipes. I use it
at Passover time, using the matzah meal. I make them year
round, and they work really nice for Shabbos dinners when
you need a meat appetizer or even a main course(served over
rice).

Boiled Sweet and Sour Meatballs

3 Eggs
3 lbs Ground Beef (many times I mix grd beef & grd turkey)
Bread/Bread Crumbs or matzah meal -- equivalent of
1 piece of bread per lb of meat
1/2 tsp each: garlic powder, onion powder and pepper

To make:

Wet bread (if using bread and not crumbs or matzah meal),
mix the bread or the crumbs/meal in with the meat, eggs and
spices. Mix well.

Shape meat into meatballs -- not too small as they boil down
a bit.

Boil water (1/2 fill a large pot with water). Drop meatballs
into boiling water. Boil for 20-30 minutes. Skim fat off the
top.

Add the following:

2 - 16 oz cans tomato sauce
1/2 to 1 C brown sugar
1/4 to 1/2 C White sugar
3-7 Tablespoons grape jelly
4 Tablespoons lemon juice

Gently boil until meatballs are done -- about 20 mins.
