Kichelach, Wonton Wrapper Shortcut - pareve

Posted by : Sharon Stein

I have always loved chopped herring but had not made it in years because I
don't have the time or patience to roll out dough paper-thin to make kich'lech
as my Mom does. And the only way to eat chopped herring is on a kichel!

Imagine my joy when recently my friend Shelley Shub shared with me her secret
for easy kich'lech! Here it is:

Go to your favorite grocery store and buy a package of wonton wrappers.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Place a single layer of wontons on a non stick baking sheet and either spray
with Pam, or brush with a little vegetable oil.

Sprinkle with sugar.

Bake for 5 minutes. Be sure to check at 4 minutes and constantly thereafter as
they brown very quickly.

You will have crisp, shiny, delicious kich'lech on which to eat your best
chopped herring! You will also find that even those people who don't eat
chopped herring will devour these plain. And you should plan on making twice as
many as you thought you needed. They will all disappear!
