Fig/Date Squares - pareve

Posted by : Ruth Heiges

This recipe gives you a choice of figs or dates, or you might try a
combination of the two. The fruits, combined with the nuts, are excellent
for Sukkot and, I think, Tu b'Shevat.

Ruth

Fig/Date Squares
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1/2 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1-1/2 cups finely chopped dried figs or dates
1 cup chopped nuts
Sift together flour, baking powder and salt.
Beat eggs until foamy, then beat in sugar and vanilla.
Add dry ingredients and mix well.
Stir in figs and nuts.
Spread in greased 9-in./23 cm square pan.
Bake at 350 F/175 C for 25 - 30 minutes.
Cut into bars.
