Home-made Cream of Tomato Soup 
1 quart home-canned stewed tomatoes or 32 oz can Diced Tomatoes 
9 oz can Chicken Broth (not diluted) 
1 oz Butter (no sub) 
2 Tbsp Sugar 
1 Tbsp finely chopped Onion 
Pinch Baking Soda 
2 c Whipping Cream 
Simmer first six ingredients for 2 hrs minimum. (Tastes even better at 4 hrs in a crock pot or in the oven at 275). 
Heat cream in a double boiler. When hot pour slowly into tomato mixture while stirring. Serve with large home-made butter croutons. Garnish with minced sweet basil.
