MacBain's Tomato Chowder

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method 
-------- ------------ -------------------------------- 
2 slices lean salt pork or bacon 
1 medium onion -- chopped 
2 cloves garlic -- minced 
4 potatoes -- peeled and cubed 
4 ripe tomatoes -- chopped 
5 leaves fresh bsail or 1/2 tsp dried 
salt and pepper 
milk 


In a large saucepan, fry pork and then saute onions and garlic in 
drippings.  Add potatoes, and cover with water.  Boil gently until potatoes are soft. 

Add tomatoes and seasonings, and simmer 15 minutes.  Add an amount of milk equal to tomato-potato mixture, and heat gently.
