Nebraska Cheese Frenchee Sandwiches

6 slices bread
mayonnaise
6 slices American cheese
3/4 cup flour
1/2 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon to 1 teaspoon salt
1 egg
cornflake crumbs, finely crushed
oil for deep frying

Prepare three sandwiches in the usual manner using the mayonnaise and the cheese. Cut each cheese sandwich into four quarters.

Make the dipping batter by beating the milk, flour, egg and the salt together. Dip the cheese sandwiches in the coating batter. Now roll the cheese sandwiches in the crushed cornflakes crumbs to coat the cheese sandwiches.

Heat the oil to 375 degrees F. and deep fry the coated chesse sandwiches until they are golden brown.

Cooking Note: Some people cut off the crust from the sandwiches before dipping them in the coating batter.
