Swiss Steak

2 pounds beef round steak, cut 1/2 inch thick
1/4 cup flour
2 Tbl. cooking oil
1 large onion, chopped
minced garlic, if desired
1 cup celery, chopped
1 cup white sauce OR 1 can cream of mushroom (or celery) soup
1 cup water or dry red wine
1 to 2 tea. Worchestershire sauce
1 tea. salt
1 tea. marjoram
1/4 tea. pepper


Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Sprinkle steak with flour and pound on both sides tenderize. Cut meat into 6 equal portions. Heat oil in a skillet and brown steak on both sides.

Combine remaining ingredients and pour over all. Cover and bake in 350 degree oven 1 1/2 hours, or simmer on stove top for 1 1/2 hours or until meat is tender.
