Super Bowl Chili

3 Tbls. bacon drippings
3 pounds round steak, coarsely cubed
6 Tbls. chili powder
1 Tbl. ground oregano
1 Tbl. crushed cumin seed
1 Tbl. salt
1/2 to 1 tea. cayenne pepper
2 or 3 large cloves garlic, minced
1 1/2 quarts water
3 Tbls. masa harina

In a heavy skillet or dutch oven, heat bacon drippings and brown the steak cubes on all sides. Add seasonings, garlic and 1 1/2 quarts water. Bring to a boil, cover, reduce heat and simmer for 1 1/2 hours. Skim off fat. Stir in masa harina and simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Adjust seasonings. Serve with cooked pinto beans, warm tortillas, and beer.

Serves 8 to 10.
